    Setting S.M.A.R.T. goals

Your Goals should be S.M.A.R.T. When setting goals – I want you to think of the acronym S.M.A.R.T. Goals should be: Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Time Sensitive A Goal should first of all be Specific. A general goal isn’t really a goal; saying things like “I want to lose weight”, or, “I want to get better grades” doesn’t qualify as a goal. A goal must first of all be Specific. Next, Goals should be Measurable. You have to set goals that are measurable so you can track your progress. Tracking your progress helps you stay on track. Goals should also be Attainable and Realistic. ....

10 Reasons Why Martial Arts is the Best Activity for your Kids

10 Reasons Why Martial Arts is the Best Activity for your Kids
From an article posted by Kenney Myers
    Fostering Self-Discipline
    – One of the central tenets of all forms of the martial arts is an absolute focus on self-discipline. Today’s kids are so accustomed to receiving instant gratification that lessons in self-restraint and discipline aren’t always easy to come by. Kids with a martial arts background, however, are continually reminded of how essential self-discipline is.
    Boosting Socialization Skills
    – Kids who don’t always thrive in highly social environments may find it easier to get to know people and make new friends when ....

  • School, Peer Pressure and Cliques - How Parents can help

As kids navigate friendships and cliques, there's plenty parents can do to offer support. If your child seems upset, or suddenly spends time alone when usually very social, ask about it. Here are some tips: Talk about your own experiences
.Share your own experiences of school — cliques have been around for a long time! Help put rejection in perspective.
Remind your child of times he or she has been angry with parents, friends, or siblings — and how quickly things can change. Shed some light on social dynamics.
Acknowledge that people are often judged by the way a person looks, acts, or dresses, but that often people act mean and put others down because they lack ....

    Attitude of Gratitude

This month (with Thanksgiving right around the corner), we are talking to our students about Gratitude. We are talking about gratitude is simply the attitude of recognizing, appreciating, and being thankful for all the good things in your life. The reason why it’s so hard to develop an Attitude of Gratitude is because we live in a negative world; we live in a world that accentuates the negativity. As a result, we tend to learn how to focus on the negative. But if you want to be a positive person, and if you want to have more joy in your life, than you need to learn how to focus on the positive. However, if you want to be more positive, and enjoy more of life, you ....

    A MINDSET FOR DISCIPLINE

I shared a quote in our Krav Maga class last week from Ralph Waldo Emerson; “sow a thought and you reap an action; sow an act and you reap a habit; sow a habit and you reap a character; sow a character and reap a destiny.” How we think about things will determine how we feel about them, and how we feel about them will ultimately impact whether we act on them. Self Defense training is hard work. It is impossible to make progress without being pushed out of your comfort zone. So the battle really begins with our attitude in that it determines whether or not we will take action. If we truly want to develop more discipline, it is essential that we control our ....
